Product Description
Dishwasher-safe, eco-friendly, high-quality stainless steel water bottles from Klean Kanteen offer a great alternative to plastic and lined metal bottles. Constructed of food-grade #304 stainless steel, Kleen Kanteen bottles are BPA-free and 100 percent recyclable. An all-stainless steel interior, 18/8 stainless caps, and stainless steel threads mean the bottles won't retain or leach flavors, so you get a fresh, clean, crisp drink every time. Because Klean Kanteen bottles are constructed of food-grade stainless steel, they're not coated with a plastic or epoxy lining like aluminum bottles. The new wide mouth line of bottles have an opening more than two inches in diameter, which makes filling, pouring, and cleaning the bottle a cinch, and the universal thread design works with most standard backcountry water filters without an adapter. With the Klean Kanteen Wide, you have even more earth- and body-friendly choices. They come in five sizes, ranging from 12 to 64 ounces, and all come in pure, shiny brushed stainless steel. The wide bottles are shorter and more compact than Klean Kanteen Classic bottles but incorporate the same slim design, meaning sizes up to 27 ounces fit in most cup holders. They also come standard with the Stainless Loop Cap, which works seamlessly with the S-Biner, so it's a snap to clip it right onto a shoulder strap or pack.Amazon.com Product Description

About Klean Kanteen
Before anyone else was making stainless steel water bottles for personal daily hydration, before the current widespread concern about health and environmental issues in relation to plastics, Klean Kanteen was cobbling together the first Klean Kanteen prototype from items bought at the local hardware store in Chico, California. In 2004, the first Klean Kanteen bottles were released because the company wanted to give people something better than plastic and aluminum--a lightweight, reusable, body-friendly bottle free of BPA; a bottle durable enough to last a lifetime; an easy-to-clean, easy-to-carry beverage container for people of all ages; a bottle that keeps drinks fresh and clean-tasting no matter how many times you refill it; a simple design engineered for function in every way. In those early days, Klean Kanteen shared bottles with people at music festivals, environmental fairs, outdoor recreation events, and other sorts of progressive gatherings.
Klean Kanteen has grown over the past five years from a tiny, upstart company to a leader in the stainless beverage bottle industry. During this time, it's also taken significant steps toward lowering the environmental footprint through consideration and adjustments in every aspect of production facilities and practices. Ensuring office paper is 100 percent post-consumer content, providing hand and dish soaps that are fair trade and eco-friendly, using Energy Star-certified office equipment--these are just a few of Earth-in-mind internal operations choices. This commitment to sustainability also extends to the very beginning of the production process, where Klean Kanteen has increased oversight and conducted third-party audits of factories to ensure they're meeting Klean Kanteen’s high environmental and fair labor standards.

Klean Kanteen: Clean and Simple
by .. Jadeline ()
I used a Sigg bottle for over a year but decided to switch when it became frustrating to clean the yellow metal rings where the cap screws into the mouth of the bottle, as well as the thin white spongy ring piece in the cap. When it looked like mold was forming and I couldn't scrub it off, it was time for a change!
So I've chosen the new 18 oz wide mouth model of Klean Kanteen as my new H20 sidekick.
Pros:
1. The wide mouth is a little over 2 inches so you can see clearly right into the bottom of the bottle (to make sure it's clean).
2. The rings of the mouth is all stainless steel like the bottle and it's easy to clean in-between the few rings there are (it takes only two full turns to unscrew the cap).
3. There's no questionable lining in the bottle like Sigg. It's all stainless steel, baby!
4. The base of the bottle is the same as their regular bottles so it'll still fit the in car cup holder, etc.
5. I like the uniform cylindrical shape. Classy!
Cons:
1. Though the center of the bottle cap is stainless steel (so that your water never touches plastic) I didn't like that it was plastic that was screwing over the mouth of the bottle. Would the thread last? Also, I can foresee the cap being slightly hard to scrub in the thin deep cavity between the stainless steel and plastic parts (see picture of cap interior to know what I mean).
no green goo

This bottle is great! I love the wide mouth feature. I like the fact that the part you drink out of is covered by the lid. I was hesitant about getting this bottle due to the reviews about the green goo. I did not have any goo on my bottle. I also bought he D-ring lid and like how it sits flat while I am drinking out of my bottle. It is easy to clean and you do not need any special tools. I would highly recommend this bottle.
Excellent Bottle

I bought my 2 27oz wide kleen kanteens, for my teacher and I, directly from their website. I was afraid to order from another supplier. I also wrote the company before I made my purchase. They assured me there was no bad taste, it was really stainless and all the other questions I came up with. They arrived within just a few days and I was excited to open the package. Sure enough they were beautiful! I have been using mine ALMOST every single day for school, work and any time I go out. My teacher did not like the big size, so she gave hers to her son. But, I kinda wish I bought the 40-oz and still may buy one.
If I do not clean it every day, it will quickly get a bad taste. So, I decided from now on, just wash it out every day and I have NEVER had any problem since. And there has NEVER been any "goo" in it. It looks just as nice as the first day I bought it. I will fill it with sweet tea, chocolate milk, soda, or water.
And I ONLY decided to even buy these after I talked with the company directly. They explained the old style of making these bottles vs. the new style. There's a chance if you are complaining you are getting some middle man's stock of the older style bottles.
I suggest you give these company a 2nd chance! I am actually going to buy an 18 oz. for my teacher for Christimas, since she is still drinking out of the nasty plastic bottles.
And do yourself another favor, don't fall for those aluminum bottles either-read about them, they can cause Al overdose. This stainless steel is the way to go!
And even the lid has steel on it. The ONLY plastic inside is actually on the rim where it seals-so it's not "technically" in the water at all! The plastic on the outside of course, does not touch your water either!
I am angry with myself though. One day I had it in the side pocket of my Backpack, but I did not have the compression cord over it like I normally do-was just lazy. So, sure enough as I was removing the pack, it fell out and all the way to the concrete! It got a small dent in the bottom of the can and a scratch on the plastic handle. Other than that, it even looks the same!
Just make sure what you are buying before you buy it. Go to the company for this one!
My new favorite

It's tough to get worked up about a water bottle, but the wide mouth version of the kleen kanteens are great. The stainless steel is non-reactive, even to acidic foods, and of course, it's BPA-free (see the Nov. '09 New York Times article on how nasty BPA can be). The best part about this model - what makes it superior to the regular kleen kanteen - is the lid. The threads for the bottle are on the outside, so instead of the lid going into the bottle and getting covered with whatever sticky liquid you're carrying, it stays much cleaner. Because the lids are handwash only, this is a real convenience. The flip-top loop on the lids are also an improvement. They're too expensive to buy as replacements for my existing keen kanteens, but as my kids lose them, I'll be replacing them with this version.
Simple and solid. No complaints.

This is definitely the best water bottle I've owned. Doesn't have the awkward shape of the regular Klean Kanteens, doesn't dent like a Sigg, the stainless steal is great so you can put anything in it, the wide mouth lets you actually see and clean inside, the top screws on like it should... nothing fancy, of course. Just simple and very well done. And I haven't had any of the green goo that others have complained about.
