Doamondback Viper Jr Review 5 by .. A. Gruen (San Francisco, CA)
I purchased this bicycle for my son's 8th birthday. He has been off trainers for a while and is ready for handle brakes. I like that the bike has both a handle brake and a pedal brake. This is perfect for this learning transition. Shorter riders will quickly realize that grabbing the handle brake can help in steadying the bike while mounting.

I am very impressed with the quality of parts. Aluminum rims, easily adjustable gooseneck, long seat post for maximum adjustability, these features can be very helpful in extending the life of the bike.

The size of the bike frame and riding position fit my son perfectly. For your consideration I will say the frame minimum standing clearance is 20 inches. I do not recommend this bike for a child whose inseam is less than 21 inches. My son measures 21 inch inseam and is very comfortable riding.

The package arrived with a full set of allen wrenches and a open ended wrench. All tools necessary for initial assembly are in the box. If you buy, be sure to check all bolts before riding. The factory does not always get every one tight.

I purchased this bike for my son's 8th birthday and we are both very happy with the bike. The size is slightly big for him, which is what I wanted so he should have several years of use. The bike is good quality and assembly is very simple.

The first day went to a BMX track and the bike held up well through all the numerous jumps and falls. My son really loves the bike and all he wants do do is ride it everywhere. It also didn't hurt to have some older kids at the track tell him they liked his bike and ask a bunch of questions. I would highly recommend this bike for the high quality at a moderate price. I don't think you will find a better bike for $150.

Perfect bike for [...] year old 5 by .. Kaplowie (Sacramento, CA United States)
We just bought this bike for our [...] year old daughter and it's perfect for her. Our daughter was too big for a 16" bike but not yet strong enough to depend on hand brakes. The combination of hand brakes for practice, and coaster brakes for piece of mind is perfect. The bike is well made, and easy to put together. This is probably the lightest bike you can find in this price range.

Perfect for my 7 year-old 4 by .. DrummerBoyInCalif (Culver City, CA)
Got this bike for my 7 year old who has outgrown his first bike, a 16-incher. The main problem I had with most 20-inch BMX bikes I've seen (I was hoping to find one under $100) at Target/Walmart/ToysRUs stores is the brakes -- very few models offer coaster (i.e., "the reverse pedal") brakes, and the hand brakes either don't fit my little man's hands or they were so stiff (cheap calipers) that there's no way a kid would be able to stop the bikes.

This bike was "just right" for my little man -- it is a "short" 20-inch bike -- the top bar and the seat are designed extra low for shorter legs. The wheel base is the same as your typical BMX, so my kid should be able to enjoy riding for several more years on this before he moves on to larger frames. The bike is set up with a rear coaster brake so that Junior can stop with his legs (and also do those cool skid-stops), and it has a smooth, higher quality linear-pull hand brake (also rear wheel) that is easy for growing hands.

Some assembly is required out of the box -- You'll need to install the front wheel, attach handbars, attach pedals & seatpost, and adjust the brakes. Gears, crankcase, and the rear wheel all come pre-assembled.

Get those helmets on, be safe, and pedal away...

great bike but front reflector broke with one fall 4 by .. M. Attygalle ()
My daughter likes the style and color. On her first ride, just with gentle fall, the reflector mount plastic bracket broke off and unusable. I am not sure whether we can get replacement but I wished it was stronger, better design bracket as this is BMX bike. Brakes are good quality but handle break seems a little too tiny even for a small made 9 year old. This one does not look like kid bike and it was not too difficult to assemble.
