About Exercise Bikes
Despite the competition from trendy new fitness inventions, exercise bikes continue to be popular options for home exercise. They offer the same aerobic benefits of riding a bicycle at any time, in any weather, without leaving the comfort and safety of home. Exercise bikes don't take up much space, require little or no balance or coordination, and can provide an effective workout for all levels of users, from beginners to serious competitors. While the same could be said for a number of other types of home fitness equipment, the exercise bike is one of the few that allows you to watch television or read a magazine while you work out. For many people, having convenient access to quality exercise equipment is critical to sticking with a long-term exercise program.

Customer reviews
Overall good bike - noisy seat
by .. Susie Q (Livermore, CA)
We bought the bike a couple of months ago. Overall we are pleased with the bike. If you are 6' or over, your knees may hit the handlebars. And the seat...not to comfortable and sqweeks for most of the ride (no matter what size you are and no matter how tight you try to make it, the seat swivels). Except for the seat, the bike is a quiet ride. Now we need to order a new seat that will be comfortable and not noisy as the one that comes with the bike. Overall it is a good bike and exercise is a necessity.
Great exercise bike

Schwinn has created a winner with the 140 Upright Bike.
Assembly isn't too difficult and using it is a real pleasure. It will give you as much of a workout as you want
and the electronic controls are easy to adjust.
Now own two of them, one for myself and one for the wife.
Not for the the tall.

the bike is VERY quite but also compact. I'm 5'7" and I feel a little cramped riding it. Not recommended for tall people.
Great bike for the price
by .. bookworm (Texas)
We bought this bike because it doesn't take up a lot of floor space, my husband needs an exercise bike to recover from hip surgery and I want to get in shape and wanted an alternative to using our treadmill.
The package arrived on schedule and I noticed a little damage on the box. After reading other reviews about shipping damage I expected this since it is a very heavy package (about 85-90lbs?), and I expected damage to the front stabilizer bar end caps like the other buyers stated. Before unpacking anything else, I looked at the front stabilizer bar. Indeed, one of the end caps with a transport wheel was broken into 7 pieces, although it was still attached and able to support the bike and allowed for moving it on the transport wheels. Instead of returning the entire package, knowing I might get another bike shipped out with the same kind of damage I went to the bike's website [...]. Although I waited 20 minutes to speak to a customer service rep she informed me that it was under warranty and they would replace any damaged parts under warranty no charge or shipping cost to me. I just had to email/fax a copy of my Amazon receipt and then they would process the order. It took about 12 days including weekends but I got the part I needed.
After that was taken care of I unpacked all the other pieces and put the bike together in about 1 hour. It would have taken less but I had a 3 year old "helping" me. It went together easy, not much to it, directions were simple.
There are lots of adjustments to make to fit the rider. I am 5'5" and my husband is 5'10" and we can both ride comfortably. My husband is an avid mountain biker and understands bike fit to one's body and he likes the way the bike can accomodate both of us. Adjusted properly the bike can fit the rider while in the proper biking position to avoid sore knees, sore lower back, etc. My back got tired the first time I rode but my husband said the seat was too far back and I was reaching too much. So I moved it up and voila, no more discomfort. We were concerned about sharing a bike that would be comfortable for us both but this bike works great and we are happy with the freedom of adjustments.
The bike doesn't make a single noise while riding, it doesn't make a single sound. I mean none. However, the seat creaks a bit from whatever material it is made from. It is very smooth and quiet to pedal. The computer could be nicer but works for what is intended. It's a bit hard to see the screen if its tilted too much but that can be adjusted too. The seat is ok comfy but I'm not used to riding. The biggest thing is to get the adjustment right for maximum comfort in my case. I could always switch out the seat.
Overall we are very happy with this purchase. I would recommend this bike. I originally wanted a recumbant bike but they are $$$ and take up more floor space. After using this one for about 2 weeks, I realize my core gets more of a workout anyway and it really is comfortable for both of us to ride. We really like the appearance and quality.
Excellent Exercise Bike
by .. Michael in Virginia ()
If you desire an exercise bike, please look at this one before you purchase another. I researched all the websites and visited a number of stores to look at bikes. While I couldn't find a Schwinn 140 to see in person, the websites' pictures, reviews and specifications indicated that this bike was quiet, compact, and well-made. When I received the shipment, the product was exactly that. Unlike other exercise bikes I have used, this one is absolutely quiet -- no sound at all. Quality is evident. And it looks so good, I put it in my family room. One of the small wheels was broken in shipment, but a call to Schwinn (Nautilus) got me a replacement part quickly. Excellent purchase through Amazon!
