Nothing Short Of Amazing!
by .. Errol M. Dickson (Miami, Florida)
A HUGE technological improvement over the Mars 2.0 and Mars 3.0 tailight...also puts the competitors 1/2 watt Superflash to shame. Left and right side amber color led's are much larger and brighter than previous models. And of course the very conservatively rated 1.0 watt center red LED provides immeadiate daytime viewability to help keep cars, buses and trucks out of your way. Very compact dimensions of length, width, depth and weight make this a no-brainer to complement your other essential safety equipment. Be safe and be prepared! This rugged, reliable and heavy-duty device is great for bicyclists, joggers and walkers. PS leave your small phillips head screwdriver at home, the Blackburn Mars 4.0 is 'no-tools', simply insert a lincoln head penny in the slot(indentation) on the side and the two halves of the case easily seperate for quick battery replacement. Overall, a very user-friendly instrument....don't leave home without one!
Impressive tail light

Really impressed by this taillight. With the singled LED, I was a bit worried that the off axis lighting would not be up to par. But Blackburn did a good design with this one.
First is the ultra bright LED. The LED's built in lens directs a really bright beam straight back, about 20 degrees wide. It is so bright that I wonder if it irritates some drivers. 20 degrees doesn't seem like much but it should be enough to catch the eye of drivers approaching off to the side from behind.
Then comes the way Blackburn mounted the single LED. They pushed it forward into the outer red lens and surrounded it some light steering plastic so that the light coming off the side of the LED is visible from almost 90 degrees. The single LED outputs so much light that the light coming off the side looks as bright as some ordinary LEDs straight on.
The amber LEDs on the side are no slouches when it comes to adding visibility straight off the side. Not the incredible brightness of the main LED but they are pretty good, a lot better than the amber LEDs that Blackburn uses on their Voyager 4.0 headlight.
Mount is a little tricky. The design is like a plastic hose clamp that you tighten with a thumbscrew. But it works. You'll also need a philips screwdriver to set the vertical angle of the tailight.
Overall, a very impressive taillight.
Blackburn mars 4.0 is great!

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/RPZ99MG4A6RA8 If your looking at this item I'm sure by now you've done your share of research to find the best light for your bike. I found this light to be quite bright, easy to install, and operate. The 150 hr run time on blink mode is by far the best feature. In this video I've included unit measurements and a quick install. I would recommend this light to anyone in the market for an easy to operate, bright, and compact rear bike light. Happy riding!
VERY Bright Light

Wow. This is the brightest light I have ever seen for a bike tail light. I first tried the Cannondale Hindsight Ultra and really like the amount of LED's it had. After the first ride however the light popped right out of it's holder and fell into the street immediately getting run over by several cars. I knew I would not be getting that light again. So I looked at the Mars 4.0 and even though it doesn't have as many LED's it practically burned out my retinas when I turned it on. This light is beyond bright. The clip is also much sturdier and that light isn't going anywhere. I have to say I was so impressed I bought 2 more, one for my mountain bike and one for my daughters bike. I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to be seen on the road.
Seriously?

People compare this rear light to the Bike Planet Superflash. It's not comparable.
Blackburn Mars 4.0 offers 1 Watt light in 2 functions. Solid and flash modes. Light is much brighter than the Superflash. I can see this light from many blocks away.
However, what people like on Superflash is the crazy flash mode. Although the intensity of the light is lower, it has a good flashing system for the vehicles to notice you easily. Blackburn Mars 4.0 has the steady flashing mode, which I think is fine, in my personal opinion. I prefer Mars 4.0 over the Superflash.
I use Bike Planet Blaze for the headlight. That is probably the best headlight available for the price. No other in price range can beat it.
