Nice to Have it Long...
by .. Nelson Coronado (Santa Monica, CA)
Indeed, I've found that when securing bike to other than dedicated Bike spaces, it's always handy to have extra room, especially when locking the front wheel and frame. This Lock delivers durability with fairly light weight, I'm sure a sledgehammer would knock it right off, but then again most locks would give in to the hammer. I recommend this one for mid-level security, wouldn't trust a super expensive bike to it though.
Good Lock For ~$20
by .. Abraham Emond (SLC, UT UAS)
I live in a pretty good area of SLC, but needed something more secure than a cable or chain. The long shackle makes locking the bike easier. Good lock for the money.
Works like it should
by .. Kenton Lee ()
This is a lower end Krytonite for less expensive bikes or secondary security. My bike is in a bike cage, so this lock suffices. It does not have the higher end security features since as center key slot and hardened steel around the mechanism. The mechanism itself is smooth, and it appears to be good quality. The extended length is handy.
Pros & Cons...
by .. Marvin Jones (Los Angeles, CA USA)
This bike lock is a vast improvement over the cable lock I had been using (which was eventually cut by a bike thief with a bolt cutter, resulting in the loss of 2 very nice bicycles!).
I like this lock because the bracket is longer than most locks of its kind, making it easier to use and easier to fit around two bikes.
It has two drawbacks, however.
First, the key/lock mechanism is a little difficult to work with. It's one of those "You've gotta jiggle the key just right" situations. But with a little extra effort, it does eventually work.
Secondly, because of the extended bracket, I am not able to store it on the bike frame while I'm riding. So wherever I go, I must either put the lock in my backpack, or hang the lock on the handlebars.
All in all, I'd say it's a good deal. It gets the job done with minimal inconvenience.
Good lock, bad lock-keeper.
by .. P. Rich (Pittsburgh, PA)
The lock itself is great, but if you want to be able to attach it to your bike frame for storage, pick a different one. It comes with a piece that you can screw onto the frame of your bike, and the lock slides onto that piece so that you don't have to worry about carrying a big lock around. One problem with this piece is that it absolutely will not fit on a large-framed bike like a mountain bike, even with extra-long screws. The other problem is that the piece attaches to the side of the lock instead of the base, so the length of the lock must run parallel to the part of the bike frame it is attached to. Therefore, the only part of most bike frames that will be long enough to accommodate this lock is the top bar between the seat and handle bars. But to keep all of that clear of the brake and gear lines that run along the frame in that place, you have to install the lock-keeper sideways, so the lock is in the way of your legs while you ride. Basically, unless you have a bike with an extremely large but thin frame, you won't be able to use the lock-keeper to store your lock.
