Customer reviews
Its got my back. My shirt back.
by .. Vanilla Ice (VI Posse)
I saw this on sale and bought one for my bmx. I don't ride in the rain, but even going through puddles and run off water my shirt back would get dirty. Yes its meant for a front mount on a recumbent but I was able to get it mounted as a rear fender on my bmx using the included mounting hardware. If you're handy you can probably get this to work on any bike with 20" tires.
Nice Fender
by .. F. J. Svoboda (East Lansing, MI USA)
This is a pretty easy installation for a handy person, and the fender seems both very lightweight and durable. If you're not handy you'll be frustrated by the many small parts including some absolutely tiny Philips screws and should get a bike shop or handy friend to do the installation. Do the installation inside on a hard surface, since if you drop one of those tiny screws into grass or a carpet you'll likely never see it again.
Incidentally, pay careful attention to the description of what you are buying. Amazon lists multiple Planet Bike fenders and includes illustrations of both front and rear fenders. (I bought the 20" rear fender for recumbent bikes.) Be sure you're seeing "front" or "rear" in the description so you get what you intend. (Also be sure you're getting the size to match your wheel size.) After seeing the comment from the reviewer who expected a front and rear fender but got only the rear, I read very carefully to be sure I was getting the rear fender that I wanted.
rear fender keeps coming loose
by .. Jessica Cassidy (Austin, TX)
I purchased a set of these and had them installed by my local recumbent specialist. Any time I would go over a bump one of the vertical fender stays popped out of the socket. The solution was to use glue to keep it in. I think it has to do with my rear suspension.
I recommend fenders with more permanent stays even if they need to be cut.
Misleading information
by .. H.W.N. (Cut-n-Shoot, Texas)
The description of the part says "Freddy Fenders". Fenders with the "S" on the end means more than one. Since bicycles have two places for them, the foregone conclusion would be that you are buying 2 fenders, not 1. However, only one came in the box despite the photo attached to my confirmation which shows 2, along with the reviews provided which reference 2. Not a good buy simply due to horrible, vague description and questionable business tactics forcing you to hunt down and buy a front fender.
