I purchased this crankset as part of a road conversion of a 1990 Trek 8000 mountain bike. I have 3 other newer and better mountain bikes, and this one was just collecting dust with old worn-out components, so I decided to convert it for shorter-distance road riding with skinny 26" road tires. The old crankset was bent and it was easier to buy a new one with new bottom bracket than to try to straighten out the old one.
This crankset did the trick, and it was reasonably priced. With a new BB and front derailleur, the old fully rigid workhorse was back in use, albeit for a different purpose.
I have had some issues with the left crank bolt working loose a few times, but I removed the crank arm and put a very thin amount of grease on the bolt and BB taper before reinstalling with proper torque and haven't had any problems since.
I'm giving it 4 stars because if it was used off-road (as intended), it wouldn't work nearly as well as the newer BB systems (ISIS, Hollowtech, etc). I can't complain about the price, though.
