Very Pleased with this Bike 5 by .. L. Yang ()
Based on the reviews we read on Amazon.com, we bought this bike as a birthday present for our son, who was turning 4. He's had it for almost a month. He did not have much trouble learning to use the bike on his own. His previous set of wheels were the radio flyer's tricycle. We are impressed with the quality of the bike. My husband assembled the bike. He didn't have any trouble. We did buy the bike from Walmart, as someone else had suggested. We had one concern with the bike while we were shopping for one. As I said, our son was turning 4. Most of the reviews we read here pertained to 2 1/2 year olds. Based on his height, it had seemed that a larger bike would've been more appropriate. However, we did not come across a larger bike with the kind of good reviews given on the Tonka. We took a chance with it anyways, and we are glad for it. This past weekend, I overhead a mom commenting on the Tonka at the playground. It seemed that her son was having trouble with his bike. Her son had the larger sized bike, and was about the same height as my son. We thank everyone who wrote a review on this bike. It was most helpful.

This bike is great! 5 by .. C. Brown (Temecula, CA)
We did a lot of research to be sure we got just the right first "big boy" bike for our son, and we congratulate ourselves on finding this Tonka bike. This bike stands out far above the rest as the most solid, rugged, and easily handled bike for a child his age (nearly 3 1/2).

He got right on it and loves every second of it. Not too big, not too small. The bike shops told us to go with a 16" bike so he could "grow into it", but he just looked so little and so high up on them that we worried about safety...after all, it's his first big bike and there are bound to be a ton of falls - the lower the better!

Lives up to the Tonka tough name 5 by .. Jennifer M. Raively ()
My son LOVES this bike! He is 3 1/2 years old and we got it for him this past Christmas(06). It is heavy as mentioned in previous reviews but I've found that it helps with keeping it from falling over. The tires are super chunky and tough so they definately grip anything they are rolling over, especially our hallway carpet! I also liked this bike because it has brakes. I couldn't believe the amount of 12" bikes I found without brakes!! My son has mastered them already and he's only had it 3 weeks! The springy shocks are cool too. All in all, it makes my son feel like a big boy and he has been able to zoom around since day one, and stop safely too! If you have a little boy who's always moving and tumbling, this bike is for him. You can't beat the price for the quality either.

Great choice for a first bike 5 by .. Sam O'Mallan (Gulf Coast, Texas)
We have an assortment of cheaper bikes and they all get left out in the rain often. The chains won't stay on, and wheels loose air and the bearings lock up in less than a year. But the Tonka holds up. We bought it a few years back when grandson was two. He grew into it and still rides it at five. It goes anywhere. I wish they made a girls model. Our granddaughter rides it now at three so we're looking for her a bike. Haven't found one as good so I may just end up buying another and painting it pink.
It's slower than the bigger bikes because the small wheels. The only repair I've done is the handle bar got loose. Well built bike.

Tonka 12" bike is great. 5 by .. Lisa H (Las Vegas, NV)
I put this bike together for my son in no time, it was easy and the bike is really heavy duty for the price. Check around for the best price because this one isn't it. My 3 1/2 year old son loves this bike, I would definitely purchase it again. Get the matching pads and helmet also!
